Hi everyone,

We've received enough votes to move forward with this project moving to Emeritus status. I will ensure the TSC is updated at the next meeting.

Cloudstack for z/VM working group members,

As discussed during the last meeting, Mike MacIssac has stepped down as project lead. This started a discussion on the future of the working group. The results of those discussion, both on this list and at the TSC, are leading to this working group moving to the 'Emeritus' status. More details on this at https://github.com/openmainframeproject/tsc/blob/master/process/project_stages.md#emeritus-stage

Part of this move is to align this work under the incoming z/VM Cloud Connector project, which is currently working through the process to bring it's code and community under the Open Mainframe Project after being approved in the past month as a newly accepted project. That project welcomes all participants to engage in that community once it comes over to the OMP and has it's governance structure put in place.

In order to move this project into Emeritus status, a supermajority of members must approve. If you wish to do this, please reply to this email with "I approve". If you don't wish to approve or have questions about this, please reply to me directly or to the list with your concerns.

Thank you,

Related – we have moved to a more modern RESTful API in ADP – which uses JSON in as well as JSON out – however, it is still NOTHING like the zCC API – “never the twain shall meet” I guess.

Right now we do have a Slack channel folks can use at https://openmainframeproject.slack.com/messages/C5GTMN4LV

If you don't have a Slack account, head to slack.openmainframeproject.org to get one first.

As for email - this mailing list can serve that purpose if that's fine with the group.

Thanks Mike MacIssac for the notes and all your hard work in driving this group forward!

Looking at next steps for the group, considering that the TSC has accepted z/VM Cloud Connector as an Inbubation stage project, we discussed a few options:

1) Disband this group, and fold the work on build an API standard into the z/VM Cloud Connector project
2) Have this group focus on the spec building independently of the z/VM Cloud Connector project, but with the intention of the z/VM Cloud Connector being a reference implementation.
3) Have this group work with the z/VM Cloud Connector project on a governance structure that enables representation on both sides, with the intent of both groups working collectively on driving an API spec and z/VM Cloud Connector being a reference implementation.

My suggestion is for the group to discussion options over the coming 2 weeks, and then bring this up at the TSC meeting on October ( which I am discussing moving to October 4th due to the board meeting on October 10th ).

Let me know if this makes sense and everyone's opinion on the options proposed.

"the big" OMP does have an existing Slack entity (org or community, my brain is having trouble remembering which is the Slack term and which the GitHub/Enterprise term).
This working group specifically I don't think uses it at all, today.  Nothing on the working group page on Slack, for example.
Personally I've experienced the value of Slack for reducing email traffic - threading, for example, which listservs and mail clients seem to have a harder time getting right-enough.  As long as "the big" OMP permits it for WG-related traffic, even if only a subset, I'd be fine using it if the WG decided that's what they/we like better.

I don't know if "the big" OMP has any restrictions or guidelines around the use of Slack vs the listervs, JM would have to weigh in on that.  In other (process-heavier) standards and open source organizations that I've been a part of, there were policies like: all WG interactions of class X, Y, and Z had to take place on persistent publicly visible channels, while others were permitted on (organization) member-only but still persistent channels.  I don't know what OMP-Slack's policy on persistence (archiving) is, for example... whether it's in the limited/best-effort class that comes along with the free level, or "forever" which some enterprises use.  That affects searching, historical archiving, etc.

Best Regards, John

Thanks for the help and work, do you think it would be much easier to use 'slack' channel to communicate (or do we already have one? ) for some daily questions / discussion etc?
We can keep the ML for broadcast and wider attention attraction ...

Thank you,

Whether this group will be reincarnated, or a new one formed will be determined by the OMP powers-that-be.
